Jess got her start in coaching as the Entrepreneur in Residence at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
She was selected for her experiences cofounding the nonprofit The Cooperation Operation and her own startup Fertile Design —where she had proven her ability to get projects of the ground, secure funding, and generate press.
In her time as an entrepreneur Jess estimates she has had over 30 different coaches. She noticed that too often they put their own vision on her dream, told her what to do but couldn’t give her actionable next steps, and they didn’t talk enough about the vulnerability and emotional toil entrepreneurship causes.
These experiences inspired her to create a curriculum that met her clients where they were at and supported their spirits to foster their dreams coming true.
Since then she has developed a holistic approach that combines business acumen and spirit empowerment.

Jess’ journey into strategy and the business world began when she invented a bioplastic made of food waste that added nutrients to soil as it biodegraded.
It started as an optimistic dream that she won an Eager Grant for with her two partners Erin Delaney and Soniya Khasgiwale while studying at The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.
When the grant finished she was selected by Charles Adler, cofounder of Kickstarter, to participate in his Incubator at Lost Arts. Where she was coached by leading entrepreneurs in Chicago (including Cards Against Humanity). The Lost Arts Incubator concluded in a pitch in front of over 100 of the top investors in Chicago, including Kimbal Musk (Elon’s cooler brother).
She started her own business, Fertile Design, and in the process raised over 50k in funding, secured a pro bono patent attorney, speaking engagements around the city, partnerships with Morton Salt and The Chicago Park District, and press.

“The biggest compliment I ever received was from a French polymer company. They told me that for 3 years they had been trying to invent their own bioplastic and I had done better than them using food waste in my kitchen”
